EARLY VOTING STARTS MARCH 13TH!
I am a working class candidate from a family of immigrants, and a single mother with deep roots in my Bronx community. I live the same struggles as the people in City Council District 15, which includes the neighborhoods of Belmont, Fordham, Tremont, Mount Hope, Allerton, Olinville, Van Nest, West Farms, and Bedford Park.
My grandparents immigrated to America from Sicily and Calabria in the early 1900s, and settled in the Van Nest area—where my family and I still live today. My family taught me to express my love for my community, and for my country, through service. My grandfather was a WWI Veteran; during WWII, my father served on the front lines in Germany as a paratrooper; and my older brother, who is a member of the Theodore Korony American Legion Post #253 in the Bronx, served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War.
I am a passionate community leader and fierce advocate for my Van Nest community. I'm a founding member of the Van Nest Neighborhood Alliance organized in 2010, and became the civic organization’s President in 2015. I have been a member of Bronx Community Board 11 since 2008, and have served on the Housing Committee, Economic Development Committee and the Youth and Education Committee. Over the years, I realized that there’s a limit to how much a citizen can do to improve his or her community and the lives of the people who call it home through volunteer work.
Ours is a community of strugglers and strivers. Whether blue collar workers, or immigrant small business owners, they want the same things: economic stability, good schools, neighborhood amenities, and safe streets. I am running for City Council to help people who live in District 15 overcome the political and systemic challenges that get in the way of achieving the things we all want for ourselves and our families. I am focused on the needs of District 15, not a political or personal agenda that won’t improve the lives of the voters who live here.
I will be YOUR VOICE in City Council!
"My name is Bernadette Ferrara. I am running to help people in City Council District 15 overcome political and systemic challenges that get in the way of having economic stability, good schools, neighborhood amenities, and safe streets. I am a person running for office, not a party."
